Looking for cute fall outfits for 2023? Perfect, because I’m going to show 38 of my go-to outfits for the fall season.
Let’s jump right in!
Where to Buy Cute Fall Outfits for 2023
These retailers are my favorite places to shop for cute fall outfits. They have everything from basics to super trendy pieces- you can find everything you could possibly want from these 4 stores.
Nordstrom – This is where I buy the majority of my clothing from. They are a one-stop shop for most people because they seem to have everything from basics to statement items and everything in between.
Revolve– This is my go-to when I want to find the trendiest pieces and latest trends.
ASOS– A cheaper option when I am searching for trendy and unique pieces to add to basic outfits.
Forever 21– If you are a girl on a budget, this store is for you. They have everything under the sun, so no matter what you are searching for they should have it, and for a very reasonable price.
38 Fall Outfit Ideas to Copy
1. Layer Your Sweaters
Outfit #1 will is my go-to fall outfit. I am all about comfy & cozy pieces that are stylish, and this outfit embodies all of those things! I love mixing blush pink and grey together- it’s a neutral color combo that is flattering on everyone. Layering is key when it comes to fall weather. It can be too cold to just wear a shirt, but a little too warm to wear a full-on coat, so that is where layering comes into play. I love layering cute sweaters over comfy knitted tops to create the perfect fall look.

2. Flaunt a Fur Vest
Fur vests are a fall must-have. You can add a fur vest to any basic outfit (white top and jeans) to spice it up.
3. Wear a Chic Leather Jacket
Leather jackets are the perfect fall accessory. Not only do they keep you warm on a chilly fall day, but they look sleek and chic.
4. Always Accessorize from Head-to-Toe
Don’t forget to accessorize from head to toe. Add some chic black sunglasses to your fall wardrobe, and pair them with any fall outfit.
5. Complete Your Look With a Cute Hat
Hats in the fall are a wardrobe staple. They help keep you warm and they also make your outfit look more complete.
6. Wear Some Army Green
When dressing for fall, keep fall colors in mind. Army greens and grays are very popular and they look great paired together.
7. Pair a Structured Hat with a Chunky Knit Sweater
Structured hats are a huge fall trend. You can never go wrong with pairing a hat with a chunky knit sweater.
This is one of my favorite Christmas outfits.
8. Have Many Plaid Shirts on Tap
This outfit is made up of basics that I purchased at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. There’s really nothing like a good ol’ plaid shirt that gets you in the fall spirit. I love the versatility of plaid shirts, and I also love that they make great layering pieces.
I prefer wearing them over a feminine looking cami, but you can also wear them buttoned up or even tied around your waist. Since it is still summer, you may be wondering how you could wear some of your Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchases now. I have already worn my plaid shirt several times.

I mentioned above that it is a great layering piece and it truly is!
When it’s 100 degrees outside, you know the AC will be about 50 degrees anywhere you go, and I am someone who is always FREEZING.
I have been loving wearing/bringing my plaid shirt with me when I go anywhere because it’s a light layer that will keep me warm whenever I am inside. I much prefer bringing a lightweight plaid shirt with me rather than a hot and chunky sweater. If you haven’t tried this out yet, you seriously need to!
If you are already dreaming about fall and fall fashion like me, check out this video where I share everything I bought from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and how I will style each piece for fall:
9. Mix Your Patterns
Pattern mixing is something everyone should try in the fall. My favorite patterns to mix are stripes and leopard.
10. Don’t Fear Denim on Denim
Denim on denim is a fun way to wear your denim this fall. Just make sure to wear two different shades of denim/jean when you mix them together. I prefer wearing a lighter color denim on top, and darker denim on the bottom.
Read how to wear denim on denim for more info.
11. Go Leather on Leather
Leather is very popular in the fall. I love wearing leather leggings and a leather jacket together, just as long as they’re broken up with a longer tunic like this plaid shirt.
12. Wear Off the Shoulder Sweaters
Off the shoulder a.k.a. OTS tops were SO popular this past spring and summer, so it’s no surprise that they are trending again this fall. OTS sweaters are a nice alternative to regular sweaters because they are still warm and cozy but you get to show off a little shoulder.
Nordstrom is currently carrying soo many cute OTS sweaters but my favorites are the pink one below, and the one below, which you will be seeing in an upcoming blog post very soon! 🙂 I recently ordered the jeans below online and I am so obsessed with them.
I had heard really good things about the Good American brand so I wanted to order a pair to see what all the hype was about! They are so comfortable and flattering and I LOVE that they are long enough on me.
Get the look:
Being tall, I have a hard time finding skinny jeans that are the right length on me, and these jeans are perfect. If you are tall and are looking for a new pair of jeans, you need to try this brand out!
Also, I follow a petite blogger and she also loves Good American jeans, so it seems to cater to everyone no matter what size you are! It’s safe to say I have found a new favorite brand of jeans and I want to order a few more pairs.
I have to mention the over the knee boots I just purchased because they are the perfect fall boot! I am so obsessed with OTK boots I would wear them with every fall and winter outfit if I could.
I found these Steve Madden boots and I fell in love with the taupe color. The thing I fell most in love with was the price of these boots…they were under $100 which is seriously crazy for a super well-made pair of OTK boots!
They also come in black, so if you are wanting a pair of over the knee boots I would highly suggest getting these. If you can’t justify buying yourself a new pair of boots right now, make sure you add them to your Christmas list! 🙂
13. Copy My OOTD
Statement belts make any basic outfit look complete and put together. I love half tucking my sweaters into my jeans and pairing them with a belt.

The weather in Dallas was pretty warm for October, but it didn’t stop me from wearing some of my favorite fall outfits. The slouchy sweater was the perfect top to wear in Dallas because it kept me warm while we were inside air-conditioned places, but when I was outside the slouchy, off the shoulder part of the sweater kept me cool enough!
14. Wear a White Knitted Sweater
A warm knitted sweater is the first fall fashion staple. Sweaters can be paired with anything and everything, so make sure you have a great sweater in your collection. You can wear it with different pants, jewelry, scarves, boots, etc. to make it look like a totally different outfit each time you wear it.
Dark jeans are another fall staple that everyone needs to own. I am in love with the dark jeans above that are under $65! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a really nice pair of jeans that you can wear all season long.
Get the look:
If you are going to try out any trend this fall, I highly recommend buying yourself a wool hat. I have a collection of wool floppy hats that I wear from September-January. Start out with a neutral-colored hat that you can pair with tons of different outfits. Hats complete any look and they give such a warm and cozy feel to your outfit.
I always have been and always will be obsessed with over the knee boots. If you don’t have them already, you need to buy a pair ASAP! Not only do they give your legs extra warmth during these cold months, but they make your outfit look so much more stylish and complete.
Last but not least, make sure you have a classic leather bag in your fall wardrobe that will last you for years. Leather bags will go with anything in your closet!
15. Elevate Your Style with Burgundy
I love fall colors, especially this burgundy color. I think it would make a perfect sweater for Thanksgiving dinner.
16. Combine a Dress and OTK Boots
You can’t go wrong with pairing a dress with over the knee boots and a hat. Those 3 items together make the cutest fall outfit!
17. Pair Black and White
Everyone owns black and white in their wardrobe, so pair some black and white items together to create a neutral fall outfit.
18. Don’t Forget About Scarfs
Cozying up with a scarf is one of the easiest ways to stay warm this fall. Find a scarf that matches your outfit and wear the scarf instead of a jacket.
19. Wear a Moto Jacket
This is one of my favorite fall staples, which happens to be the suede moto jacket! I am so obsessed with my green moto jacket and I look forward to wearing it a LOT more this season.
Moto jackets are so versatile because they can be worn with jeans, skirts, and even dresses.
A moto jacket can be worn casually or with a dressier outfit.
I love pairing moto jackets with OTK boots.
Suede is the “it fabric” this fall, so make sure you add a suede jacket, boots, or handbag to your collection (or all 3)!.

20. Pair a Cami & a Long Sweater
This outfit is what I wore on a date night with my hubby in Chicago! We went to our favorite steakhouse, Mastro’s, and it was the perfect outfit to wear to dinner. I love the lace-trimmed cami because it can easily be dressed up or down. The cami is such a great transitional piece because it can be worn alone in the summertime, or paired with a sweater, leather jacket, etc. in the fall and winter.
Get the look:
I can’t say enough good things about these AG jeans! They are one of my top favorite purchases lately. These jeans are another great transitional piece because they are an ankle jean with a raw hem. I LOVE how the raw hem looks when you wear sandals or booties with these jeans. The hem detail makes these great jeans to wear year-round! I will continue wearing these jeans into the fall and winter with riding boots, OTK boots, and even with my winter boots.
You will be seeing me in lots of long cardigans this fall! I absolutely love styling long cardigans, and I got this one along with a couple of others from the NSale! I prefer long, oversized sweaters over shorter cardigans. This sweater is warm and cozy which is ideal for fall weather, and I think this neutral sweater is the perfect addition to any fall ootd! Just an FYI, the sweater runs big so make sure to order down a size or two.
21. Wear a Sweater Dress
Sweater dresses are my favorite fall wardrobe piece. They look adorable on their own, but they look even more stylish when paired with a sweater or jacket on top. Throw in a warm coffee on a chilly day and it makes it even more amazing.
Here’s a sweater dress outfit I absolutely love.
22. Rock Some Bell Sleeves
One of my favorite trends for fall is bell sleeves! I have always loved this style, and I’m so happy that just about every retailer has jumped on the bell sleeve train and is selling these tops and sweaters this year. What’s even better is when you can find an adorable bell sleeve sweater for under $40! This purple bell sleeve top is SO soft, cozy, and you can’t beat the price point. Plus it comes in 2 other colors that are super cute for fall!
Get the look:
I love pairing bell sleeve tops with skinny jeans. I wouldn’t wear flared jeans with a top like this because there would be too much flare going on, and the bell sleeves wouldn’t stand out as much as they should. I am in love with Blank NYC jeans. They are seriously soo comfortable and they are super affordable. Most of the distressed jeans I own are Blank NYC and they are pretty much the only jeans I ever wear! If you are looking for jeans that fit incredibly well and are trendier but at a very affordable price point (under $100!), you need to try these out!
23. Brighten Things Up
Don’t shy away from bright pops of color this fall. You can still wear your favorite bright and fun colored sweaters no matter the season!
See full outfit post HERE
24. Mix Different Prints
Leopard print is one of the biggest trends of the season. Wearing a leopard scarf is a subtle way to try out the trend without having to wear leopard from head to toe.
Follow these 5 guidelines to learn how I mix prints in my outfits, and how you can too!
1. Choose 2 patterns to mix
When it comes to mixing patterns, I like sticking with two different patterns. Anything more than two patterns gets a little too busy looking in my opinion. You want your pattern mixing to look purposeful, not like you got dressed in the dark 🙂
I’ve always been a huge fan of mixing stripes and animal prints together for a cute fall outfit. This is an easy combo to try out for a pattern mixing beginner!
2. Stick with a color scheme
When I’m mixing two patterns together, I want to make sure that the color scheme of the whole outfit is going to be cohesive, so with my outfit pictured above, I stuck with a black, white and tan theme.
3. Mix materials, too!
Another fun way to mix up an outfit is by choosing different materials to pair together, so I wore a leather jacket with suede booties. I wouldn’t have worn leather boots with a leather jacket because I like to diversify my materials as well as patterns.
4. Don’t directly layer the prints
I personally don’t like layering my prints on top of each other. I wouldn’t wear a striped top with a cheetah print jacket on top. I always make sure my patterns aren’t directly layered on top of each other. I wore a leather jacket to break up the striped top and animal printed scarf.
5. Play around with your prints
There is not just one way to mix prints, and there are no hard-set rules on how to do it. I wanted to share with you the guidelines that I follow when styling multiple prints. Play around with the clothes you have and see what looks best on you and what you feel the most confident in!

25. Don’t Forget About Graphic Tees
Graphic tees are a fun trend to try out this year. I like tying my tees in a knot at the bottom to give the shirt some shape instead of it looking like a boxy t-shirt.
Check out these graphic tee outfits for more inspo.
26. Bring Elegance Back with a Long Vest
Here are a few of my favorite tips and tricks on how to master your feminine style. If you want to learn how to better incorporate girly pieces into your wardrobe to create a feminine outfit, then keep reading!
Wear girly fabrics & patterns
My first tip to mastering your feminine style is to add girly fabrics to your wardrobe. Lace, ruffles, even florals will make your wardrobe more feminine. I love this lace turtleneck because it is delicate and super girly.
Embrace all shades of pink
Pink is the most feminine and girly color, so adding more pink to your closet will help you master a more feminine style overall. I personally love blush tones because they are understated but they are still very feminine and pretty!

Always flatter your figure
A major key to looking and feeling more feminine is to wear clothes that fit you very well! Figure flattering clothing options will instantly make you feel more feminine. Ditch the baggy jeans and opt for high waisted skinny jeans instead. No matter what body shape you have, always make sure to wear clothing that compliments your body in the best way possible!
Make sure to add heels
Heels instantly make me feel 100x more girly and pretty! I’m not sure what it is about heels, but they give you a little extra confidence and they dress up your look. Find a great pair of heels that you feel comfortable in, and throw them on when you are wanting to master your feminine look!
27. Wear a Floral Dress
I don’t think there is anything I love more than flouncy, floral dresses for fall! Florals aren’t just for spring and summer, they are also very popular in the fall.
28. Wear My Fav Black Chocker Sweater
Choker trends have been all the rage recently in necklace form, t-shirt form, and now in sweater form! I am absolutely obsessed with the black choker sweater I got from the #NSale that I’m wearing above. I am all about comfy, cozy sweaters in the fall, and this sweater checks all those boxes plus it is super trendy and fun with the choker detail.
I have always been a huge fan of over the knee boots and I can’t wait to start wearing them again this fall! OTK boots transform any basic outfit into something more stylish and eye catching. OTK boots look amazing paired with skinny jeans or with dresses/skirts in the fall.
Check out these super cute over the knee boots outfits for some inspo.
Get the look:
- BP Sweater
- AG Jeans
- Steve Madden Boots
- Rebecca Minkoff Bag
- ‘Boldly Bare’ Lip Liner
- ‘Creme Cup’ Lipstick
- ‘Sugar Sugar’ Lip Gloss
I got the velvet bag pictured above last year, and I have been seeing so many cute velvet bags coming out this year! Velvet reminds me of the holidays, and it is the perfect accessory to carry with you in the fall and winter. Velvet bags are such a statement piece, and they can really spice up any outfit.
I also wanted to share the lip combo I’ve been obsessed with lately! This combo is so flattering on many different skin tones, and it’s the perfect everyday lip color. I line my lips with Mac ‘Boldly Bare’ liner, put Mac ‘Creme Cup’ lipstick on, and top it off with Marc Jacobs ‘Sugar Sugar’lip gloss! Try this lip combo out and let me know what you think!!
29. Have Several Long Cardigans
Long cardigans are a fall staple, so make sure you have a few stocked up in your fall wardrobe.
30. Wear a Faux Sherpa Vest
A plaid shirt + faux sherpa vest is a match made in heaven. Add some OTK boots to the look and your outfit will scream fall.
31. Throw a Skirt Into the Mix
Don’t be afraid to throw a skirt into your fall wardrobe mix. Instead of wearing jeans, opt for a skirt and pair it with OTK boots to keep your legs warm.
32. Stand Out with Velvet
You will be seeing a lot of velvet this season. My velvet bag is one of my favorite accessories that I love carrying throughout the fall.
33. Add a White Leather Jacket to Your Wardrobe
Leather jackets are the perfect layer to add to your outfit on a chilly fall day.
34. Get a Cute Waffle Tee
Waffle tees are a comfy and cute basic that every woman needs in her wardrobe. It is lightweight enough to be a great layering piece.
35. Wear a Chunky Knit Cardigan
As many of you know, fall is my favorite season to dress for. I’m all about cozy sweaters, boots, and wool hats. Dressing for winter isn’t as fun when you have to cover up your outfit with a big coat! I am going to enjoy the last bit of fall to the fullest, so I wanted to share a cute fall outfit that would be perfect for the weekend.
Get the look:
The sweater in this outfit is my favorite purchase as of late. It is so soft and warm, and it’s definitely something you can wear into the winter. I wore jeans and OTK boots with the sweater, but it would also look so cute with black jeans and booties or heels. If you can’t tell, I have a hat obsession. Floppy hats are my favorite fall accessory. Next time you are at Nordstrom, try one on!! Sometimes you need to try several on to find which one suits you best, but once you find your “type” you will want one in every color!!
36. Don’t Forget About Black Jeans
Black jeans are a must-have. Black jeans dress up a look more than traditional blue jeans do, so they are a wardrobe staple in the fall and winter.
37. Get a Go-To Blanket Scarf
A blanket scarf will not only keep you warm but it will also add some fun color to a neutral fall outfit.
Outfit #38
You really can’t go wrong with pairing a cute fall sweater with a rich-colored wool hat.
How to Style Fall Outfits
Fall is my favorite season because there’s nothing I love more than styling fall outfits. I love the layers, textures, colors, and trends that come along with fall, and that is what makes it so fun for me! If you have any questions about styling fall outfits or if it’s not so fun for you, I am going to help you out and make it fun and exciting for you.
First things first, what makes dressing for fall so fun (for me) is all of the layerings and accessorizing that goes on. I love layering sweaters over dresses or tops, wearing hats, boots, scarves, etc! You don’t always have to hide your cute outfit with a coat, you can layer and stay warm by adding pieces like sweaters, moto jackets, a hat, scarf, etc. to keep you warm and looking very stylish. Layering doesn’t need to be complicated, so make sure you keep it simple!
Example of a sweater over a dress with boots and a hat.
One of my favorite ways to layer in the fall is by wearing a sweater dress with a long cardigan or leather jacket over it and adding some OTK boots or booties to the look. If it’s extra chilly that day, make sure you layer on a scarf and even a floppy felt hat or a knitted beanie. As the weather changes throughout the day, you can simply remove items you no longer need (i.e. hat, scarf, or sweater). Playing around with layering is FUN because you can create several different outfits by wearing the same basic pieces and just changing a few of the layering details.
Example of staying warm but still looking chic. Opt for a moto jacket and scarf instead of a jacket that covers your outfit.
One aspect that is very important about fall fashion is having the basics when it comes to a fall wardrobe.
Basic Fall Wardrobe Items
- Sweater dress
- Long cardigan
- Leather jacket
- White tee
- Black tee
- Jeans
- Black leggings
- Plaid shirt
- Scarf
- Beanie
- Felt hat
- Booties
- Over the knee boots
- Fur vest
- Trench coat
With these basic items, you can make several different outfits that you will be able to wear all season long.
Some people may wonder when it is acceptable to start wearing fall outfits, and I am here to give you my two cents on this topic. For me personally, by August I am soooo over summer and ready to start diving into all things fall. Depending on where you live, the weather may prevent you from digging into your fall wardrobe too soon, but I think, weather permitting, you can start dressing for fall as early as you’d like. If there is a chilly or rainy day or night in August, you better believe I have grabbed a cute chunky knit sweater and paired it with jean shorts for the day.
Example: I paired a fall knit sweater with a denim skirt in late August.
I am not saying you should wear your sweaters, boots, and hats when it’s 100 degrees outside, but I like mixing and matching some fall and summer trends if the weather allows for it. Fall technically begins on September 22, but you don’t have to wait until it’s fall before you start wearing items from your fall wardrobe. The best part about fashion is that there are really no rules, so do whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident!
ahhh I cannot wait for fall!! living in Florida is kinddd of a downer for that though, haha. I moved down here 3 years ago from NY and it is just not the same! Love the OTK boot look though!
and love the lip product combo you posted, love the colors! I’ll definitely have to try that out!
