El Dorado Maroma Resort Review for 2023

Looking for an El Dorado Maroma review for 2023? You’re in the right place! Keep reading:

Hi friends!! I wasn’t planning on creating a blog post about my Mexico trip, but I got several requests on Instagram to share a recap of my vacation, so here it is! My husband and I stayed at El Dorado Maroma in the Riviera Maya. The resort is located on Maroma Beach which is considered one of the 10 best beaches in the WORLD…how cool is that?! Everything about the trip was amazing. Before I get into the details, I wanted to share the outfits I wore while on vacation. You can find all of my outfit details posted below each photo. Huge shout out to my Instagram husband for capturing all of these shots 😉

– THE RESORT –

The resort was absolutely beautiful and very quant which I loved. It is an adults only resort and it’s very quiet and peaceful. The staff is extremely friendly and they take very good care of their guests! We got upgraded to royal suite (which I highly recommend!) and the amenities were incredible. The room was very spacious, we had a large balcony with a gorgeous view of the beach, a jacuzzi, outdoor shower, and more! Every single room has a stocked mini bar with water bottles, sodas, etc. Since you can’t drink the water in Mexico, they always provide you with cold water bottles wherever you go. If we were ever running low I would call room service and they would bring me however many bottles I wanted straight up to our room.

El Dorado Maroma is the only resort in Mexico that has the overwater bungalows which are called Palafitos (pictured above). They looked so amazing but we truly enjoyed our experience of staying on the actual resort. The ocean water was extremely shallow, so if you stayed in the Palafitos you wouldn’t be able to jump into the water from your deck since the water was so low. I definitely consider that a huge downfall especially when you have to pay so much more to stay in those rooms.

Overall, I give the resort and our room a 5/5!

– FOOD –

El Dorado Maroma is an all inclusive resort with gourmet food, so it’s not your typical all inclusive resort. The food was always prepared beautifully and everything my husband and I tried was delicious. Since the dishes were gourmet, the portions were small but since it is all inclusive you can order as much as you want 🙂 It was fun trying lots of different types of food! There are 5 dinner restaurants on the resort with all different types of cuisine including Caribbean, Mexican, Peruvian, Italian and Asian. On top of those choices, every Friday night they have a Mexican Fiesta by the pool where they have a huge Mexican food buffet- my husband literally got 5 plates of food that night! He realllly liked the Fiesta 🙂 My two favorite restaurants were Mio, the Italian restaurant and Kiyoko, the Asian restaurant. Since we went on this trip for our anniversary, we were able to have a private dinner on the beach one night to celebrate. It was a 5 course meal and we had 3 choices for each course that we chose beforehand. That dinner was AMAZING!

For lunch, there were two restaurants open daily, plus a swim up bar where you can order burgers, quesadillas, etc. One of the lunch restaurants was called Papitos and it had a different food theme daily. We ate at Papitos on the day we arrived to Maroma and it was buffet style tacos. We didn’t love that lunch, so the rest of the days we ate at Mio, which had a set menu, and Bar 24, which had the most DELICIOUS chicken quesadilla I’ve ever had.

Breakfast was also served at Papitos and Mio daily, but we preferred the Mio breakfast. They had pancakes, waffles, eggs, toast, hash browns, etc. At Papitos, it was a large breakfast buffet but I didn’t love the options. They had an omelette station which was nice, but they also had a lot of Mexican food options like beans, rice, tortillas, and I just couldn’t stomach that for breakfast haha.

I feel the need to include the fact that there is a Starbucks on this resort!! On the first day there was a girl sitting next to me at the pool and she had a venti Starbucks cup and I was like “where did you get that?!” It was just down the beach on our resort, so that was pretty exciting to have a legit Starbucks on the resorts property!

My sister has been to this resort several times and she is the reason my husband and I wanted to try it out! She told me I had to order the Mexican lemonade everyday and OMG it is truly the most delicious drink in the world. They interpret lemonade as limeade and it’s truly the best mix up of all time. My husband and I don’t drink, and the night of the Mexican Fiesta the waiter asked if we wanted margaritas and I told him we don’t drink, so he said he would make us something special. He came back with frozen Mexican lemonades and it was truly life changing hahaha. It was SOOOO good and we had them everyday twice a day after we discovered how amazing they were.

–  ACTIVITIES –

One of my favorite things about the resort is that there are sooo many activities to do and you could never get bored. They have yoga every morning, zumba, pool aerobics, guacamole making classes, salsa dancing, bingo, ping pong…you name it, they probably have it! Every night they also had a show and we only went to one which was a magic show and it was surprisingly amazing. There is a fire show every Monday but we got there on a Tuesday and left on Sunday so we sadly missed that. Besides the daily activities the resort provided, just down the beach there is an area called Maroma adventures where the excursions are located. Thousands of people from different resorts around Cancun get bussed in/come in on boats to do the Maroma adventure excursions. I loved the fact that this was connected to our resort so we didn’t have to leave the resort to do fun activities. There were sooo many things to choose from like snorkeling, speed boating, ATVs, scuba diving, swimming with dolphins, jet skis, deep sea fishing, camel riding and SO much more. My husband wanted to ride the ATVs and I wanted to swim with dolphins so we did both! These activities are not included so they do cost extra, but we were able to negotiate on the prices which was nice.

– SPA –

The spa was so incredibly nice, Nathan and I got a couples massage and it was so relaxing. The spa was huge and they offered many services besides massages like facials, manis/pedis, blow outs and more. If you like to relax and be pampered on vacation, you would absolutely love the spa here.

– BEACH + POOLS –

Like I mentioned before, Maroma Beach has been rated top ten in the world, so you can imagine just how amazing the beach is! The water is crystal clear and feels like bath water. The only downfall to the beach is the seaweed. They were having a major seaweed problem, but they had guys working 24/7 (literally) to try and clear out the seaweed for the beachgoers. They had covered beach beds that were so comfy and they were first come first serve, and they come along with a beach butler who will get you anything you need.  They also had lots of beach chairs with umbrellas as well, but the beach beds were definitely the most sought after. There were two swings in the ocean as well as hammocks over the water which I thought was a fun touch that I hadn’t seen before. They were very popular as you can imagine!

There are two main pools on the resort, and they both had swim up bars (I took advantage of the all you can drink smoothies and frozen limeade!!!). We only ever laid by the main pool, and like the beach, there were covered poolside beds. They also had super comfy and padded chairs in the sun, and there were some chairs built in the pool which was pretty cool for hardcore sunbathers haha. We absolutely loved both the pool and the beach experience!

Below are some photos of the amazing food we ate, and I will caption which restaurant everything is from!

Pancake breakfast at Mio…my favorite!

Chips, guac, pico, and queso DAILY at Mio for lunch. SO yummy!

Frozen Mexican lemonade a.k.a. limeade. Wish you could taste it!!

OMG this chicken quesadilla from Bar 24 is making my mouth water right now.

Strawberry milkshake poolside…I miss this!

Watermelon salad that was included in the beach dinner package. So good!

Every night I would get coconut ice cream with chocolate sauce for dessert. INCREDIBLE!

I think I need to plan another trip back to Maroma already, it was truly an amazing vacation! If you have any questions at all about the trip or the resort, please feel free to ask me! Leave me a comment down below and I will answer it for you 🙂 Thanks so much for reliving my wonderful vacation with me!

  3. I’m searching for an adult-only all inclusive resort to celebrate my 40th birthday with my husband and some friends. After hours of searching for reliable reviews I found yours. What was the atmosphere like at El Dorado Moroma? Was it quite and zen or lively and fun? A mixture of both? Also, what was the dress code like for the men? My husband doesn’t want to wear pants on a beach. Lol

    Thanks for your time!
