Are you already worried about what you’re going to wear for the 4th of July?
4th of July outfits can be confusing to put together – should you transform the American flag into a dress, or should you dress a little more subtly for the occasion? It all depends on what your plans are really, but below, I’ve compiled a list of the 16 best 4th of July outfits for women in 2023.

You can use the below for inspiration whenever the 4th of July rolls around. Just bear in mind that defining your own personal style and color palette will help you to make more stylish decisions that suit you.
Take a look at my list of the best!
Patriotic Shirts and Tops
Let’s start with the classic patriotic shirts and tops that many people rock for the 4th of July. You don’t have to go this hard when it comes to the 4th of July dressing – they are certainly not subtle. <- trying to reword this but not sure what it’s trying to say -Dylan

However, they are a great way to show your patriotism and get you in the mood for any celebrations. Many of the tops are flattering and nice fitting too, so you don’t need to worry about looking cheap and tacky if you buy one that’s right for you.
Red, White, and Blue
Many people choose to wear their own clothes in red, white, and blue. Still patriotic, but slightly more subtle than a full-on flag.
For example, a cute red and white striped dress with blue heels could look lovely, or you could even go for statement red trousers and a white top, adding blue accessories as you feel necessary.

Get creative and use your imagination if you’re going to use this for the next 4th of July.
The great thing about these pieces is that you can wear them with other things in your wardrobe, so you’re not going to end up buying something you will only wear once a year (like something with a flag on it).
Slogan T-shirts
Slogan T-shirts are a little more casual but still a great way to celebrate. T-shirts with ‘America’ slogans and even ‘Made in America’ look great and seem to be very popular.
You can wear slogan t-shirts with denim shorts, jeans, or even a skirt.

They can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion, which is a huge benefit!
Try wearing your slogan t-shirt with a casual skater skirt if you still want to look fun and flirty, or tuck it into a pair of jean shorts!
Cute Tops And Jeans
Cute tops and jeans are great for all kinds of occasions, and the 4th of July is no different. For example, you could wear a red and white polka dot top with nice jeans and sandals.
You don’t need to go all out ‘4th of July’ colors and patterns – it’s absolutely fine just to give a slight nod to the occasion in your outfit.

Red and white together work so well, as do red and blue and even white and blue.
You don’t need to wear all three colors together to get the 4th of July dressing right.
Casual Dungarees
Want to stay cool and casual? Dungarees are back with a bang.

To make it a great choice for the 4th of July, you can add a red t-shirt for good measure. Try wearing just one strap up and one down for a little extra edge.
Mix Prints – Stars and Stripes, Of Course
Mixing prints is a great way to add a little more substance and texture to any wardrobe. There’s no better time to practice mixing prints than the 4th of July, either!
This is your opportunity to have fun wearing stars and stripes. Choosing patterns in similar colorways can work really well, or you could even make sure one of the patterns in monochrome, as this makes mixing them up slightly easier.

Usually, it’s a good idea to mix three patterns, as keeping it odd stops it from looking strange. However, this is your prerogative.
You could try 60% of one pattern, 30% of another, and 10% of another and see how that works for you. Whatever you do, remember that it’s not usually a good idea to completely split the patterns 50/50!
Plaid Dresses
Plaid dresses are another lovely choice that was very popular last year. Plaid is a great pattern and can be styled any way you like, whether that’s with black boots for a ‘grunge’ vibe or some cute sandals to girly things up a little.

For instance, you could wear a red plaid blouse over a navy dress.
Striped Bikinis and Houndstooth Swimsuits
Heading to the beach for the 4th of July, or simply planning to bask in the sun? Striped bikinis and even houndstooth swimsuits were immensely popular last year.
One-pieces can still be cute – all you have to do is select a style that suits you. You could go for a high leg swimsuit, for instance, if you like that retro look and feel.

Don’t forget to accessorize your bikinis and one-pieces, either. Hats, sunglasses, headscarves, headbands, and even a little jewelry can all make you look more put together and slightly dressier for the occasion.
A sarong is also a fantastic addition to any beachwear outfit if you know you’re going to want to cover up at some point.
Classic White Dresses
Don’t fancy dressing up in three different colors? Classic white dresses were also very popular on the 4th of July 2019.
This is because they can be dressed up or down.

You could pair with sneakers and a denim jacket, or heeled sandals depending on the occasion.
They are beautifully feminine, too. You could even give a nod to the 4th of July by adding red/navy accessories.
Double Denim
Double denim isn’t the fashion faux pas everybody once believed. It can actually look hugely stylish, providing you pick well-fitting denim pieces.

If you want extra 4th of July style points, mix red and blue denim!
Red Jumpsuits
Jumpsuits are a fantastic outfit, whether you’re heading out for a casual affair or going for cocktails. They are comfortable and easy to move in but can be figure-hugging and flirty too, so you’re going to feel comfortable and beautiful whenever you choose to wear one.

Again, this is another piece you can wear with different accessories to dress up or down. Wear with sneakers for a casual event, or heels for something dressier.
Rompers
Exactly the same as the red jumpsuit, the romper will look great and keep you comfortable whatever the occasion.

Perfect for when the weather is warmer and you’re looking to stay cool.
Red Floral Skater Dress
Contrary to popular belief, the 4th of July doesn’t have to be all about stars, stripes, and everything else we see every year.

A red floral skater dress can be the perfect nod to the occasion without going all-out American flag dressing.
Polka Dot Mixing
I’ve said it numerous times here and I’ll say it again; it’s not all about stars and stripes! If you like polka dots, for example, you can still wear these proudly while dressing for the 4th of July.

One of the most beautiful and stylish outfits is a pair of red trousers worn with a blue polka dot top. The polka dots were slightly different sizes, making the mixed prints vibe really work well.
T-shirt Tucked into High Waisted Jeans
High waisted jeans can forgive a multitude of sins. Wear them if you know you’re going to be overindulging a little and you’ll still feel like an hourglass-shaped goddess!

Tuck in a nice t-shirt and throw on a straw hat or another casual hat for good measure, and you’ve got yourself a cool but casual outfit that’s perfect for this event.
Nice and Neutral
Don’t fancy any of the ideas listed above? Then make like Bella Hadid and wear an all neutral outfit instead.
She wore a beige and brown striped tank top and ripped high waisted white jeans with cream converse, along with her signature sunglasses to up her cool factor.

White jeans can be a risk, especially if you’re going to be eating and drinking, but they are effortlessly summery and stylish!
If you prefer neutral outfits, then this could be the one for you.
It can be tough to come up with 4th of July outfits that don’t look tacky or those that haven’t been done before. All you have to do is define your personal style and color palette, and it should be so much easier for you to achieve each year.
Using the inspiration here, you should have 4th of July outfit ideas for years to come!
