As a bride, you want to feel like you have that gorgeous glow that radiates from the inside out on your wedding day. That is why we are going to be talking skincare today! There are certain steps you need to take in order to achieve that gorgeous glow. Makeup can only take you so far; taking good care of your skin is what will create that beautiful glow that every bride wants.
It is so incredibly important to establish a skincare routine once you set a wedding date! For me, getting my skin in the best possible condition for my wedding day was a high priority. Makeup goes on SO much better and looks even more beautiful when the skin underneath is healthy and hydrated.
I came up with a wedding skincare timeline for all of you brides-to-be out there! Even if you have a very long engagement and your wedding seems like it’s far away, I would start your skincare routine as soon as you get engaged (or even before you’re engaged!). You need to get in the habit of practicing good skincare habits as soon as possible. Even if you aren’t getting married, this is still a great routine for you if you are wanting to improve upon your current routine or if you are a skincare beginner!
Wedding Skincare Timeline:
12 months out- Figure out what skin type you have. Are you dry? Are you oily? Are you acne prone? Find out what skin type you have so you can address those issues ASAP!
10 months out- Find a reputable spa in your area. You should meet with an esthetician so you can get on a facial routine. Learn about all of your options and create a schedule. I would shoot for one facial a month. This can get pricey, but it’s totally worth it!
8 months out- Find skin care products you love and that work for you, and stick with them! A lot of the time women are constantly trying new face washes, toners, and moisturizers, and their skin breaks out because they keep introducing new products and ingredients to their skin. When you find products that are reacting well with your skin, stick with them! Don’t experiment with any new products before your wedding. Stick with what you know works, and your skin will thank you!
6 months out- HYDRATE! Drinking water has so many benefits for your body and your skin. It’s important to start focusing on your water intake around 6 months before your wedding. Buy a large water bottle and keep it with you at all times! You should be drinking water like it’s your job. If you ever feel thirsty, it means your skin is thirsty too! Don’t neglect this step- this is what will help you achieve that beautiful bridal glow!
4 months out- Do you have acne scars or sun spots that you wish could be removed from your face? Talk to your esthetician and see if a chemical peel is right for you. A more intense peel will actually remove the top layer of your skin and get rid of scarring, fine lines, sun spots, etc. Try out a chemical peel 4 months before your wedding- NOT the week before!
2 months out- Start testing out spray tans. Does the spa you go to offer airbrush spray tans? That is the way to go in my opinion! For your wedding, you want your tan to be as flawless as possible. When a person is spraying you rather than a machine, there is less room for error. Start your search and book an appointment to test out your tan 2 months before your wedding. At this time, you should also learn how to exfoliate your skin to make your spray tan last as long as possible. Read my post here to learn the pre and post tips to spray tanning.
1 month out- Get your last facial that includes extractions. Let your esthetician get all of your clogged pores out at this time! Do NOT let her do anymore extractions after this point because they could get irritated/break you out even more. Let your skin relax after this point since your big day is one month away!
1 week out- Go to the spa and relax! Get a hydrating facial where they only put a hydrating mask on you. This will insure that your face is glowing and looking beautiful and hydrated for your big day! Get a massage to help you relax. You deserve some quiet time to yourself before all of your family and friends come to town!
Night before- Hydrate, avoid salty foods, and make sure you remove ALL of your makeup before you go to sleep! The night before your wedding is going to be very busy, so try doing things like writing cards and wrapping gifts the week before instead of the night before. Don’t stress yourself out, and get some rest!
Day of- If you wake up with a break out, DON’T WORRY!! Your makeup artist will be able to cover it. If you’ve followed the 12 month skin care routine, your skin will be so thankful to you because it will be healthy and hydrated. You are going to be a glowing and beautiful bride! Enjoy your wedding day, and be excited that your skin is looking absolutely flawless!
