It’s finally springtime and I’m so happy that I can start wearing my spring clothes again! I’ve been loving the longer days and warmer temperatures but I have noticed something that’s not so ready for springtime…my skin!
I have always had fair skin and until recently I never found a way to get a perfect summer glow. I am not a fan of tanning beds for a few reasons. 1) They are so so bad for you, 2) I personally burn to a crisp, and 3) you look “overcooked” instead of glowy and radiant. Spray tans are a good alternative to tanning beds but I’m not a fan of paying $30 for a tan that lasts 4 days at most and leaves you looking very splotchy and orange. I was desperate to find something that gave me the glowy, bronzey look I had been searching for, as well as something that was cost effective and convenient.
After trying several self tanning mousses that left my skin streaky looking (think zebra stripes…NOT cute), I finally found THE ONE! It’s not a mousse, it’s not a lotion…it’s a spray! I had been walking the self tanning aisle at Ulta and I came across a purple bottle called Fake Bake and it caught my attention. I was so intrigued by the fact that it was a tanning spray instead of a mousse/foam or a lotion, so I decided to give it a shot. It came with the tanner, a tanning mit, and latex gloves to wear under the mit…all for $26.50!
As soon as I got home from Ulta I tried out the tanner. Let me tell you what I LOVED about it:
1) It had a color guide so you could see where you already put the tanner on your skin
2) You only need to spray the mit a few times to saturate it with product
3) The scent is bearable (this is important to me with self-tanners!!)
4) The tanner did not rub off on my white sheets
You don’t really know how a tanner is going to turn out until you shower the next morning. I was so incredibly happy with the color Fake Bake left me. I wasn’t orange, I literally had ZERO streaks or splotches on me, and the tan was very even. The thing I love most about this tanner is that you can put several layers of it on your skin until you are the desired color. It’s not a super dark tanner, so if you are looking for a little bit of a glow I would go over your whole body two times with the tanner. When I am wanting to be much darker, I will go over each area about 3-5 times.
Fake Bake is by far the best self-tanner I have found that makes you look natural and gives you the perfect glow! Below I will list the steps you need to take before, during, and after you use Fake Bake. If you follow all of the steps below, your tan should last for a week!
-Exfoliate! It is so important to exfoliate your body before you apply your tanner. Use a sugar scrub or an exfoliating glove to get all of the dead skin off your body before you tan. If you skip this step, your tan will look uneven after a couple of days when your dead skin starts to flake off (GROSS, I know!)
-Shave your legs. You always need to shave your legs right before you tan. Every time you shave your legs, you will shave a layer of your tan off (Gross again, I know!)
-Do NOT moisturize! You do not want to put any lotion on your body before you tan. The tan needs to soak into your skin and if you have lotion on it will prevent it from fully soaking into your skin
-Put your hair up and get it completely out of your face
-Get out your tanning mit and Fake Bake
-Spray tanner onto mit over the sink (I always make a mess when tanning so it’s easy to do it in the sink for an easy clean up)
-Spray mit with the tanner a few times and start rubbing tanner on your body in circular motions
-SKIP tanning your hands, feet, and face until you are finished with the rest of your body
-Go over whole body as many times as you need to be the desired color. NOTE: there is a bronzer color guard in the tanner so if you look very dark it’s only so you can see where you’ve applied the tanner. That color will wash off in the shower.
-Once you are completely finished tanning your body, you can tan your face, hands, and feet. This is a very important tip: Do NOT spray any additional tanner on your mit. Use what is leftover and lightly rub it onto your hands and feet. Make sure to put it in between your fingers and bend your fingers to get the tanner in all of the crevices on your hand. Do the same thing to your feet. When I tan my face, I spray Fake Bake on a clean foundation brush one time and rub the product on my face. You can use the mit for your face, but I prefer using a clean brush because it spreads the product more evenly on your face. Fake Bake makes a tanner specifically for your face but I’ve never used it before. I’ve always been happy with how the regular tanner looks on my face.
-Wait about 2 minutes after you’ve tanned to completely dry off before dressing- you don’t want to put your clothes on if you’re still sticky
-Put on baggy clothes. I always tan before bed since you are supposed to leave the tanner on for about 8 hours, so I wear a baggy t-shirt and shorts after I tan
-After 8 hours (or whenever you wake up in the morning) take a shower
-When you are out of the shower, make sure to moisturize your skin! Your tan will last longer if you keep your skin moisturized
-Enjoy your tan!
Those are all of the steps I take when using Fake Bake self tanner! I have been using it for about six months and I have been so happy with the results every time I use it! All of my friends have started using it too since I always rave about it and they love it just as much as I do. If you have been searching for the perfect tanner that will give you a natural looking glow, you should definitely try this one out! Let me know what you think of it!!
