7 Ways to Dress Like a Fashion Blogger

If you are wondering how to dress like a fashion blogger, you have come to the right place!

You might be thinking, “I love fashion but I could never put outfits together like my favorite bloggers”. That is absolutely not true!

Anyone can dress like a fashion blogger, no matter your occupation or what your daily life looks like! That’s why I’ve compiled 7 easy steps you can follow to start dressing like a fashion blogger (tip #3 is my personal favorite).

Okay, are you ready to impress all of your friends and co-workers? Let’s get to it!

TIP #1: Keep up with current trends

This tip is SO important because part of the reason you probably love following fashion bloggers is for the fashion inspo. Bloggers are always one step ahead of the trends and they are able to put unique outfits together that are extremely fashion-forward, and they end up inspiring others to try out the same looks. That doesn’t happen by chance. Bloggers study up on the latest and greatest trends, they aren’t just predicting the future.

Studying up on fashion trends may sound like a snooze fest to you, but it’s actually SO fun and one of my personal favorite things to do. Are you ready to hear how easy it is? All you have to do is go to popular retailer websites like Nordstrom, Revolve, and Shopbop and they all have a “What’s New” or “New Arrivals” tab on their website.

Here’s how to find the “New Arrivals” tab on Nordstrom:

Here’s how to find the “New” tab on Revolve:

Here’s how to find the “What’s New” tab on Shopbop:

I check that tab almost daily to see what’s new and what new trends are out.

Nordstrom also has a “Trend Report” tab where they show all of the current trends in women’s fashion.

If you keep up with this practice, you will always see what the latest trends are and you can try them out before your friends do. Look at you being the trendsetter now!

Now I know Nordstrom, Revolve, and Shopbop are on the pricier side of places to shop, BUT you don’t have to buy all of your clothes from those stores in order to be “cool” and “trendy”. All you need to do is get inspiration from their new arrivals to see what items are trending at the moment, and then you can create similar looks with clothes you already have or find more affordable retailers to shop from like ASOS, H&M, Missguided, etc.

TIP #2: Accessorize

This tip may seem simple, but it makes a HUGE impact when styling an outfit. I’m sure you have screenshotted some of your favorite outfits from bloggers…I mean, who hasn’t?!

In your camera roll, I bet you have a photo in there of a blogger wearing jeans and a basic tee but the look was so cute you just had to screenshot it.

Look a little closer….I’m sure that fashionista is wearing funky statement earrings, a stack of bracelets, the cutest bag that you just added to your wishlist, and the latest pair of wedges that are to die for. You screenshotted that outfit because she styled it in a killer way!

Accessories can make a plain tee and jeans look like the cutest and most fashion-forward outfit you’ve ever seen. ALWAYS add accessories to your look, and it will take your outfit from a 5 to a 10 in no time.

TIP #3: Dress with confidence

AWKWARD

You might be thinking, “seriously Kimmie….dress with confidence? That sounds so cliché!” But I am telling you, you CANNOT pull off an outfit if you are not confident. This tip took me a while to learn, but now that I have it down I am able to be a better fashion blogger.

CONFIDENT

If you put on an outfit and feel awkward in it, don’t wear it! Figure out what is making you feel awkward and not confident, and tweak your look until you feel your best. You can definitely tell the difference in a picture of a blogger who is confident and one who isn’t.

Even if the non-confident blogger is wearing a bomb outfit, I bet you wouldn’t be interested in her outfit if she looks awkward. Subconsciously you would think that you would look like that if you were to replicate that outfit.

If you want to be a trendsetter like a fashion blogger, you have to be confident in what you’re wearing! I will use myself as an example. I will show you a picture of myself from one of my first ever blog posts (I didn’t know what I was doing, I look awk and I bet you wouldn’t want to replicate my outfit because of my lack of confidence) vs. a photo where I am exuding confidence.

Hopefully, this example will prove to you how important it is to dress and act with confidence!

TIP #4: Learn to layer

Layering is such an important aspect when putting together a stylish outfit. If you want to look and feel like a fashion blogger, add a “third piece” to your outfit.

If you don’t know what that means, I am here to tell you.

Wearing jeans and a tee is a two piece outfit.

Vamp it up by adding a third layer to the look. That could be a leather jacket, a blazer, a trench coat, a vest, a scarf, jean jacket…the list goes on and on!

A “third piece” is an added layer that completes a look. Next time your outfit needs something extra, add a third piece to your outfit!

TIP #5: Take fashion risks

In life, no matter what you are doing, it is important to take risks if you want to grow.

If you wear the same exact thing every day, you aren’t taking risks. How are you going to find new styles that look AMAZING on you if you aren’t trying anything new?

I can guarantee that your favorite fashion bloggers have worn a lot of outfits that they look back on and say, “WHAT WAS I THINKING WEARING THAT?!?!?”, but they took a risk and came out of the situation with new insights.

They realized that certain styles didn’t flatter their bodies, or a certain color just didn’t work with their complexion.

If you don’t try something new, you aren’t growing, and style is all about risk taking!

TIP #6: Statement Pieces

Statement pieces are the star of the show when it comes to styling an outfit.

Whether you choose to wear big sunnies, a floppy hat or carry a show-stopping bag, make sure you always have one statement piece on you at all times.

It is up to you what item you will choose as your statement piece, but think of it as the one thing that will really wow people about your overall look.

Like I’ve mentioned before, you can wear a simple outfit and you can let your statement piece do all the talking.

Just make sure you aren’t wearing TOO many statement pieces at one time.

Editing an outfit is important, so if you are wearing too many statements at once, do some outfit editing and cut out any unnecessary pieces. Let your one statement piece shine, and don’t try to overshadow it with a bunch of other items.

TIP #7: Find your trademark

You follow bloggers for certain reasons, and that is probably because they have a special trademark!

You have to find your own trademark. What is going to make YOU special? What is going to make you stand out in a crowd?

It may be the fact that you are always wearing the latest and greatest earrings, and that is inspiring others to want to try out some new earring styles. Is it the way you style a basic tee? Do you always pair a hat with every outfit you put together? Whatever it is, find something that makes you stand out.

It doesn’t have to be something epic, it just needs to be something that makes you YOU and unique. Eventually, people will start noticing, and it will be exciting when they say, “When I got dressed this morning I felt like I was wearing a very you outfit!”

I would describe my trademark style as casual chic. I love wearing basics but dressing them up to make the outfit look chic and put together. What is your trademark going to be?

Conclusion…
