Yesterday I had a blog shoot, so I decided to make a little behind the scenes video sharing what goes on during a blog shoot! There is a lot that goes into a photoshoot day- from getting my outfits together, to getting myself ready, my clothing steamed, and getting all of my shoes and accessories in order. A lot of work goes into getting my blog photos done, so I wanted to show you a behind the scenes look 🙂
Blogging may seem glamorous and at times it definitely is, but a lot of people don’t know what all goes into it. Did you know that most of my recent spring looks were shot when it was 30-40 degrees out with extreme wind?! Most of my fall looks (jeans, OTK boots, sweaters, hats) are shot when it’s in the 80s or 90s! Oh how I LOVE Missouri weather 😉 I need to shoot my content pretty far in advance, so the weather doesn’t always (more like NEVER cooperates) with the season I am shooting for. It’s always an adventure on shoot days!
I usually shoot for the blog twice a month, and I shoot 3 outfits each time. My car is my dressing room, which has made for some interesting stories. It’s never fun changing in your car when you are in a populated area! You can imagine how awkward that may be…..
I try to stay as organized as possible on shoot days because it’s very easy to get frazzled if you are not prepared. I plan which outfits I am going to wear in order, and I always wear the most complicated outfit first. If I have a shirt that is hard to tie by myself or something I know would be a pain to change into in my car, I will wear it first so I can get dressed at home. If I have hats planned in my outfits I make sure to shoot my look(s) without hats first because I don’t want hat hair in any of my photos. I lay and/or hang all of my outfits in my backseat so that they are together and I know exactly what to change into. Before every shoot I make a note in my phone that says (for example):
- Floral maxi dress
- Strapless bra
- Nude heels
- Gold necklace (on hanger)
- Pink bag
- Reapply lip products!
If I am not organized, I will forget about a piece of jewelry or something that I am supposed to wear for a certain look. I have found that checking the note in my phone before an outfit change is SO helpful and it keeps me organized. Another tip I have is keeping your lip products somewhere handy. I bring a specific makeup bag with me in my car that holds my lip liner, lipstick and glosses so I can reapply between each shoot. I used to not do this and by the third outfit my lipstick was completely off and I didn’t like how that photographed. When I keep my lip products all in one place it’s much easier to find them and to remember to reapply. I also keep tissues, q-tips, a hair brush, and even lash glue in my car with me. It’s better to be over prepared than under prepared!
I hope my tips will help you if you are a blogger or an aspiring blogger. It’s so important to stay organized for blog shoots- it makes everything run so much faster and smoother. Please give my video and thumbs up and subscribe to my channel if you are new!
