Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Since we are at the beginning of a new week, I thought I would share my tips on how to have a more productive week. I work from home, so it’s easy to get distracted with random things, but I have come up with several tips that help me stay focused on my tasks throughout the week.

1. Pick up your work space

Every Sunday night, it has become a routine of mine to pick up my desk and make sure it’s organized. If I sit at an unclean desk on Monday morning I will become distracted by the mess, and I will want to clean it then and there. Choosing a specific day to organize my things makes me focus on the work I need to do each day. If you work in an office, make sure your desk is nice and clean before you leave on Friday!

2. Buy Fresh Flowers

This is another ritual I do every Sunday. Each Sunday I get groceries for the week, and I make sure to pick up some fresh flowers while I’m there. There’s just something about fresh flowers that inspires me and therefore helps my productiveness throughout the week. If you don’t want to buy flowers each week, think about buying a plant that you can keep on your desk.

3. Plan Ahead

If I don’t plan ahead each week, I won’t get very far. I pick one night a week to write out my schedule for the next week or two. I love opening my planner and seeing exactly what I need to accomplish for the day. I also have a running to-do list that I keep on my desk for other little tasks. I find that writing out the things I need to get done holds me accountable to them, and I am much more likely to finish all my tasks when I see them written on paper!

4. Schedule a Break

When you are working hard during the day, it’s nice to give yourself a little break here and there. When you work from home, it’s easy to work all day long and not even realize how long you’ve been working. Taking a couple scheduled breaks during the day will actually help with your productivity. I find that if I am writing a blog post for too long, I start to lose my creativity. When I take a break to walk my dogs or eat a snack, I come back to my work with fresh eyes and a new perspective. Little breaks throughout the day are life savers! Just don’t take too many breaks or take too long of a break; that is where you will get too sidetracked.

5. Get It Over With

When you look at your to-do list for the week and have a few dreaded tasks on that list, get them over with first. Don’t wait until the end of the week to complete those not so fun tasks. You will have a hard time having a productive week when you save the less desirable tasks for Friday because they will be on your mind all week long. Once you check those unwanted tasks off your list you will feel so much better!

    This is so helpful! I think it’s important to keep the desk clean and decorate it with some fresh flowers. Also get enough sleep! Because if you feel good, you will perform your best!
