8 Tips for Planning a Bridal Shower

This past weekend I had the honor of throwing a Bridal Shower for my best friend of 12 years! If you know me, then you know I love hosting events and making sure every little detail is thought through. While I was planning this shower and choosing the color scheme, flowers, food, and decorations, I thought it would be helpful to write a post about 8 important tips to follow when planning a bridal shower! Enjoy!!

1. Always Keep the Bride-to-Be in Mind

When you are planning a bridal shower, it’s always nice if you can ask the bride-to-be a few questions before you start nailing down all of the details. Here are some important questions that you can ask: What are a few of your favorite desserts?, Do you want your fiancé to make an appearance at the shower?, Would you like for there to be a dress code?, Do you want the shower to be your wedding color scheme? Those are a few questions you can ask the bride-to-be to get a little more information before you start making all of the decisions. You obviously do not want the bride-to-be to plan her own shower, but it is nice to get a little bit of her input beforehand so you can plan the best possible shower for her! Whenever you are making a decision like what games to play or decorations to buy, make sure you always ask yourself, “Is this something the bride would like/ want to do?” The day will work out perfectly if you are always making the bride the #1 priority!

2. Don’t Pick a Theme, Pick a Color Scheme

Picking a theme for a bridal shower can lead you down a difficult path as a planner. You may think a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” theme is a wonderful idea until you realize that the space you are throwing the shower in can’t really transform into what you had pictured in your mind. When you choose a theme, you will most likely spend a lot of money on decorations when you could be spending that money in other areas. Instead of choosing a theme, choose a color scheme. Pick a few colors that you know the bride-to-be will love, and stick to that. Everything will look cohesive and well thought out.

3. Add Personal Touches

This step is SO important, planners!! There is nothing more special than personal touches at a bridal shower. Making a customized sign with the bride’s soon to be new last name or making a welcome sign with the amount of days left until the wedding are some ideas you can use to make the shower feel more personalized to the bride. You can browse Pinterest all day for decorations, but the most memorable decorations are the special, personal ones that come from the heart.

4. Make the Bride-to-Be Stand Out

As the planner, it is your job to think of ways to make the bride-to-be feel special at her shower! It’s always fun having the bride wear white so she looks and feels more like a bride at her shower. I have seen bridal shower hosts make cute “Bride” sashes for their bride-to-be, and at my shower I was given a beautiful wrist corsage to wear. For this shower I threw, I wanted to get my bestie a flower crown to wear. Her style is very boho chic and I knew a flower crown would suit her perfectly and make her feel special. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it is something you know the bride will feel comfortable wearing.

5. Choose Games That Involve the Whole Crowd

When you are choosing games to play at the shower, keep the audience in mind. It’s fun to play games that involve the whole group and get people up and moving. Bridal trivia is a fun game because it quizzes the group on how well they know the bride and groom. The toilet paper wedding dress game is always tons of fun because it lets the group be creative and have fun together. It’s also a great ice breaker game if the attendees don’t all know each other.

6. Have a Photographer

You don’t need to hire a professional to do this, but just designate one or two of the guests to snap photos on a nice camera during the shower. I love taking detailed shots of the decor, games, gift opening, etc. It’s a nice gift to be able to share with the bride-to-be so she can enjoy re-living her shower through all of the photos. Not only is the photo quality going to be better than taking pictures on a phone, but it’s also nice that all of the pictures are on one camera vs. 15 different iPhones.

7. Give Several Food Options

Depending on the time of the bridal shower, the food options will differ. The shower I threw started at 1 p.m. so I knew I wanted to offer desserts and some snack-y foods too. You do not know the food preferences of your guests, so it’s important to offer a little bit of everything. Balance is key here. If you are offering lots of sugary foods, make sure you also have a veggie tray or some cheese and crackers. Also, don’t forget to make the bride-to-be’s favorite food!

8. Party Favor for Guests

After wrapping up a wonderful bridal shower, it is always nice to give each guest a party favor. You want to say “thank you” for coming and for showering the bride-to-be. Some people give little treats, while others give lotions, nail polish, candles, etc. It’s up to you as the planner, but make sure you tie the color scheme into the favor! Remember, you want things to be cohesive from start to finish 🙂

I hope these 8 tips will help you plan a great bridal shower! The most important part of the day is celebrating the bride-to-be and making her feel as special as possible. If you have any questions or need any suggestions, leave me a comment down below!

Color Crush- Camel

Happy Thursday! Today I wanted to share a color I’ve been crushing on for a while now…I am in love with everything camel colored! This is going to be a very popular color this fall and winter, so I wanted to share a few of my favorite camel items. There is something about camel suede clothing and shoes that I can’t get enough of. They look so luxurious and high end…what’s not to love?! I had to share with you all these booties, sandals, romper, and jacket in camel suede because not only are they are gorgeous but they are also fall wardrobe necessities.

There is nothing more classic than a chunky knit camel sweater. This sweater is a fall staple because it can be paired with anything. Wear it with denim, black jeans, or even white jeans, an a-line skirt and tall boots…your options are endless.

I have come to realize over the past year that I am a felt hat hoarder. I seriously love floppy hats and I want them in every color. This camel colored hat is already in my Nordstrom shopping cart. I can’t wait to add this one to my collection!

When I think of a brand that is absolutely timeless, I think of Burberry. There is nothing more classic than a Burberry check scarf. This item is pricey, but it will truly never go out of style. I love the neutral camel colored base with the pops of red and black. This is a wardrobe must have!

I’m saving the best for last…the Tory Burch crossbody bag! When I shop for handbags, I always make sure that the quality is amazing and that the color is something I won’t get tired of. I think I found the most perfect bag ever (thanks Tory Burch!) The neutral color, the pebbled leather…everything about this bag is stunning! Sidenote: This is the best dupe for the Gucci Soho Leather Disco bag that I’ve come across!

What color are you crushing on this fall? Leave me a comment down below and let me know!

I don’t know about you, but after a long, hot St. Louis summer I am SO ready for fall. Even though it’s still in the 80’s and 90’s here, I jump on any and every opportunity to wear fall clothes. Over the weekend it was cloudy and rained a bit, so when I saw the cooler temps in the forecast I knew I had to break out one of my favorite fall transition outfits.

I bought this top at Nordstrom, and I couldn’t wait for a cool enough day to wear it! I love that it’s a turtleneck yet it’s also sleeveless. This is a perfect top to wear in late August to September when it’s cool out but not cool enough to need a jacket. Pair it with some jeans and sandals and you are ready to take on whatever summer/fall weather is thrown at you!

I’ve already stocked up on my fall candles at Bath & Body Works and got my first dark manicure of the season. You NEED the Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow candle in your life ASAP.

Who else is ready for their fall wardrobe, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, pumpkin picking, and cooler temperatures?! Leave me a comment down below and tell me what your favorite fall activity is!

It’s crazy to me that our wedding was already three months ago! The day went by so quickly, yet it feels like it was just yesterday. I am so in love with our wedding photos, and I wanted to share a snippet of our special day with you all!

I think I was born to be a bride. The wedding planning process was so fun, and I loved every minute of it. From choosing a venue, to the wedding colors, flowers, my dress, and everything in between, I was ecstatic. The best part of all was getting to marry my best friend in front of our families and closest friends.

If you are newly engaged or in the middle of planning your wedding, feel free to ask me any questions! If I wasn’t a blogger, I would most definitely want to be a wedding planner. I love all of the little details that go into everything!

I hope you enjoyed seeing a preview of my favorite day ever. As always, thank you for being a Joyfully Styled reader!

Happy Monday! Today I wanted to share a blog post on something highly requested…makeup brush must haves! I’m also including my makeup brush cleaning routine at the end of the post, so keep on reading 🙂

In order to apply a flawless face of makeup, you need to have the right tools to work with. It is so important to invest in good quality brushes because they will apply your makeup more evenly and beautifully, and they will also last you a lifetime if you take good care of them. You can spend $70 on a foundation, but if you are not applying it with the correct brush, it won’t look as flawless as it could with the right brush. Below, I will explain which brushes I use and why, and I will link each one so you can shop them!

Foundation Brush & Beauty Blender

This foundation brush is not only SUPER affordable, but it is the best foundation brush I’ve ever come across (shout out to Jaclyn Hill for the recommendation!) This brush has synthetic hair and the roundness of the brush makes it so easy to buff your foundation in. I put 2-3 pumps of foundation on my hand and dip the brush in the foundation and start buffing away. I always start buffing my foundation in on one cheek, move to my other cheek, then apply it to my forehead, nose, chin, and then I go over any other spots that need a little more coverage. Once my foundation is applied, I use my damp beauty blender and and bounce it all over my face where I applied my foundation. This step has changed my foundation game completely! The beauty blender makes the foundation look absolutely flawless and it will soak up any excess product if you applied a little too much…no one wants a cake face! After that, I will apply my concealer under my eyes and on the high points of my face and use the beauty blender to blend those areas in.

Powder BrushTapered Highlighter Brush

I’m in love with these two powder brushes! I use the Morphe brush to set my whole face with powder after my foundation is applied. The other brush is technically a highlighter brush, but I use it to set my under eye concealer with powder. Do you ever wonder why you have black makeup under your eyes after a long day and you look even MORE tired than you actually are? That is probably because you are not setting your concealer with powder, and your concealer is soaking up your mascara, leaving you with black under eyes. When you set your under eyes with powder, that problem will magically disappear! Try it out, I promise it works wonders!

Bronzer Brush & Contour Brush

Bronzing is one of my favorite parts of my makeup routine. Who doesn’t love adding some dimension and bronzey goodness to their face?! These brushes are amazing for contouring and bronzing up the face. If I’m doing my everyday makeup, I will just use the Morphe brush to apply my bronzer and it works great. If I have something special planned, I will first go in with the Tarte brush and contour my cheekbones, forehead, and jawline. After that, I will take the Morphe bronzer brush and add a little bit more bronzer to my cheeks and other parts of my face that need to be a little more tanned. The Tarte brush hairs are SO soft and the brush makes contouring a breeze!

Blush Brush & Highlighter Brush

The blush and highlighter brushes are the last ones I use in my face makeup routine. Although the e.l.f brush says it’s a blush brush, I use it for my highlight (I’m such a rule breaker…) The best part about this brush is that it costs $3!! Yes, you read that correctly. You don’t have to break the bank to find amazing, high quality brushes. After the foundation is done, set with powder, and bronzer/contour is applied, it is time to add blush to the apples of your cheeks. I have used this BareMinerals blush brush since high school and it still does the job! I love applying my highlight with the e.l.f brush to the top of my cheekbones and tip of my nose. I always top my makeup off by spritzing my face with a setting spray, and that’s it!

Makeup Brush Cleaning Routine

Castile Soap & Sigma Brush Cleaning Mat

The Castile soap and Sigma Brush cleaning mat are the only two things you need to make your brushes and beauty blender squeaky clean! I have tried SO many different brush cleaners in my life and nothing has come close to working as well as Castile soap.

Step one: Apply the Sigma mat to your sink. There are suction cups on the back of the mat, so you just need to press the mat down and it will stick to your sink.

Step two: Wet the brush you are wanting to clean.

Step three: Apply several drops of the Castile soap to your wet makeup brush.

Step four: Rub your brush onto your Sigma mat until all of the makeup is off the brush. You may need to add a little bit more Castile soap to your brush during this step.

Step five: Rinse your brush completely and set aside to dry.

This five step process works exactly the same for the Beauty Blender! Just be careful not to scrub the Beauty Blender too hard on the Sigma mat because the Beauty Blender can rip. I like to clean my Beauty Blender after 2-3 uses.

It is so important to keep your makeup brushes clean for many reasons. Your makeup will apply much more beautifully when you are using a brush that doesn’t have tons of build up in it. Dirty makeup brushes can spread bacteria on your face and cause break outs…I know no one wants that! This makeup brush cleaning process I discovered is so fast and easy, and I actually look forward to it! Try it out and let me know what you think!!
